Here's the finished heating element. Simple, but not too elegant. Yes, that is a 30-year-old WorkMate underneath.
Here it is installed. A stainless steel pan, also from WalMart, sits directly on top of the element and contains the wood. Notice the sloping sides of the bottom to direct the drippings to the drainage hole.
Next it was time to build the wire rack shelves. We started with old oven racks from the junk yard. On the next page, I'll show how we made them fit the smoker.
